Acorn IP offers two avenues for IP audits: the 'IP Audits Plus' scheme – a collaborative initiative run by the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) and InnovateUK EDGE, and bespoke audit projects tailored to your unique needs.
'IP Audits Plus' Scheme
Under the 'IP Audits Plus' scheme, we follow the structured framework provided by the UK IPO and InnovateUK to conduct thorough IP audits on a tight budget. This scheme provides for a high-level overview of your existing IP assets, registrations, and potential areas for improvement.
In order to be eligible for this scheme, you must be granted the award by one of the UK IPO’s recognised partners (i.e. InnovateUK, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Island Enterprises, or the Welsh Government). Once your application is approved, you will be awarded a grant of up to £2,250 (inc. VAT) to go towards the cost of a £3,000 (inc. VAT) IP Audit (you need to pay difference, i.e. £750 (inc. VAT)). The IP Audit can then be carried out by Acorn.
'IP Access' Scheme
You may also be eligible to apply for the ‘IP Access’ grant, which provides up to £2,250 (inc. VAT) of funding to be used towards professional services to improve your IP position, e.g. for drafting a patent application. You must be funding at least 50% of the cost of the work yourself.
As of the 2024/2025 financial year, it is no longer essential to have previously been awarded an IP Audit under the above scheme prior to applying for the IP Access scheme.
Note that the IP Access funds cannot be used to pay for official fees levied by the patent office.
Bespoke Audit Projects
For clients seeking a more tailored approach, our bespoke audit projects delve deeper into specific aspects of your intellectual property estate. As these projects are not bound by the framework of the UK IPO’s scheme, we can more readily adjust the scope and budget to fit your needs.
